The Indian Embassy in Canada has complained about a poster showing “smoking” by the Hindu goddess Kali. The poster for Canadian director Ram Ganesh Kamatham’s film Kali has been criticised by India’s High Commission in Canada and Indian Canadian groups. The director of the film condemned the attack on him by Indian Canadians as ‘misplaced’. He said the image was based on an episode from ancient Indian mythology when a demon tried to kill her but she was saved by Shiva who put kohl (kajal) into her eyes, which made them black with anger.’

The film poster for “Kali Maa”, which depicts a young woman smoking as she sits cross-legged, is seen as offensive to many Hindus who worship the goddess as one of destruction and regeneration.

A campaign to pull down the posters has been launched on social media by followers of India’s Hare Krishna movement, who say it shows disrespect towards their faith. They have written to their local MP in Surrey asking her to intervene and get the artwork removed from public display across Canada.

The poster for Canadian director Ram Ganesh Kamatham’s film Kali, which depicts the Hindu goddess Kali smoking a cigarette, has been criticised by India’s High Commission in Canada and Indian Canadian groups.

The poster shows the goddess Kali with her hand outstretched and holding a cigarette in her mouth, while she wears a black sari. She also has red eyes and long black hair. It is unclear why exactly this image of the goddess has upset people from India so much but it seems to have something to do with how smoking tobacco is seen as being bad for your health – especially if you are female.

The director of the film condemned the attack on him by Indian Canadians as ‘misplaced’

The director of the film said he was not aware of the poster, which was not his design, and that he had no responsibility for it. He also said that it was about freedom of expression, and would not be taking down the poster.

The director told CBC News: “I condemn this attack on me by Indian Canadians as misplaced anger against those who do not understand their own history or religion.”

The High Commissioner said “this hurts religious sentiments” and must be removed

The High Commissioner, who is the head of Indian government in Canada, has said that the poster for this film should be removed and director Vikramaditya Motwane should apologise. He also wants Motwane to be punished.

The film director has apologised, but he says it was not his intention to offend anyone’s religious sentiments.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Hindu goddess Kali is known for being a symbol of power and strength. She is often depicted as a black woman with four arms, holding weapons in each hand as she stands on top of a dead body. Unfortunately there are some people who think it’s OK to distort facts about her image or even make up new ones altogether. These depictions just show how little knowledge there is about Hindu culture today; it makes me wonder if these people would even care if they knew what they were doing was offensive before posting their pictures online!

On the other hand, many Hindus are not happy with how they perceive themselves being portrayed in Western media today (such as movies), which can often be negative depending on what country you live in. Indian immigrants living abroad may feel like outsiders because so many people think only Muslims go out of their way when it comes to respecting their faith publicly through clothing choices or dietary restrictions while ignoring Christians who do not drink alcohol during Lenten season (for example).
